Players.dbf Editing Guide

The following information should be of some use if you are editing the NBA Live 08 players.dbf files using DB Commander or another DBF editor.

DELETED: Original players all have FALSE for this field
NAME: Player's surname
FNAME: Player's firstname
NICKNAMEID: Player's nickname ID. Corresponds to values in nicknames.dbf
PLAYERID: Player's ID number in the database.
NUMBER: Player's jersey number. Use -1 for number 00.
POSITION: Player's primary position
0: Center
1: Power Forward
2: Small Forward
3: Shooting Guard
4: Point Guard
POSITION2: Player's secondary position
0: Center
1: Power Forward
2: Small Forward
3: Shooting Guard
4: Point Guard
YEARSEXP: How many seasons played in the NBA
SCHOOLNUM: Player's college. Corresponds to numbers in schools.dbf
HAND: 0: Right Handed
1: Left Handed
SHOELIMIT: Player's specific shoe brand
0: None
1: Nike/Jordan Brand
2: Adidas
3: Reebok
ORIGHSHOE: Player's home shoe.
ORIGASHOE: Player's away shoe.
OVERALLRTG: Overall rating - calculated by the game
PLAYRVALUE: Calculated by the game - no need to edit


All player ability ratings are based on the following system:
0=0
1=1
50=50
90=90
etc unless otherwise noted.

FGPBASE: Field Goal/Jump Shooting Rating
THREEPTBAS: Three Point Shooting Rating
FTPBASE: Free Throw Rating
DNKABILITY: Dunking Rating - controls how often a player can make difficult dunks
STLABILITY: Stealing Rating
BLKABILITY: Blocking Rating
OREABILITY: Offensive rebounding rating
DREABILITY: Defensive rebounding rating
BALABILITY: Ball handling (passing) ability
OFFABILITY: Offensive Awareness
DEFABILITY: Defensive Awareness
SPEED: Speed rating
QUICK: Quickness rating
JUMP: Jumping rating
DRIBBLE: Dribbling rating
DSTRENGTH: Strength rating
DHARDY: Hardiness rating - controls injuries in simulated play
DSHOOTRANG: Shooting Range (8-25 feet)
FATIGUE: Fatigue (Endurance) Rating
INSIDESC: Inside Scoring Rating
THREEPTATT: The percentage of a player's field goal attempts that will be three pointers.
eg. 17 = 17% of all field goal attempts will be from downtown.
PRIMACY: Primacy Rating - how often the CPU will use player to score. Also affects simulated stats.
SCOREAREA: Player's offensive style - Refer to Chart
FACIALCTRL: Facial Expression
0: Laid Back
1: Balanced
2: Hyped
FTRITUAL: Signature Free Throw Style
AUDIONICK: Nickname used by the announcers - attribute for created players
CELEBPACK: Celebration pack
THREEPTSTY: Player's jumpshot style in the Three Point Shootout (no longer used)
ORIGTEAM: Player's original team - Refer to Chart
TEAM: Player's current team - Refer to Chart
ROSTERPOS: Roster position
0: Starting Centre
1: Starting Power Forward
2: Starting Small Forward
3: Starting Shooting Guard
4: Starting Point Guard
5-11: Active Bench
12-14: Inactive Roster
BIRTHDATE: Player's birth date, in the format yyyymmdd (eg 19750329 = 29th March 1975)
BTOWNID: Corresponds to values in birthtown.dbf
DPLACE: Player's draft position (if not drafted, -1)
DROUND: Player's draft round (if not drafted, -1)
DOVERALL: Player's draft position (if not drafted, -1)
DRAFTYEAR: Year player was drafted in yyyy format (eg 2000)
DRAFTEDBY: Team that drafted player, 3 letter abbreviation (Atl, Bos, etc)

DUNKPACK: Dunk Package - controls the dunks a player can perform - Refer to Chart
DESTINY: Player's destiny and development potential. Determines a player's chances of improving/declining. Ranges from 0 (Best) to 8 (Worst)
INJURYID: Corresponds to a number in injury.dbf. 0 by default (uninjured)
INJURYDATE: Date injury occured, assigned by game in Season/Dynasty Mode
RECOVRDATE: Date player will recover by, assigned by game in Season/Dynasty Mode
ISPLAYABLE: Determines whether a player can play (TRUE/FALSE) ie he has a severe injury, minor injury, or is uninjured. If a player's name has a red cross displayed next to it in a roster screen, he cannot play. If his name is displayed with a bandaid next to it, he is injured, but playable.
ISCREATED: Player is created (TRUE/FALSE)
ISGENERATE: Player was generated in Franchise Mode (TRUE/FALSE)
ISHISTORIC: Player belongs to Legends Pool or Decade All-Star team. Cannot be selected in Dynasty Draft.
TRADEABLE: Determines whether a player can be traded or not. A value of 0 allows players to be traded.
PLAYERPKG: Cyberface ID. First two letters of first name, first five letters of surname (eg KOBRYAN)


Note: When player has a surname with less than 5 letters, an underscore is used (eg GRHILL_). For players with shorter surnames, additional underscores are used (eg. SEMAY__).

INSEASON: Player is in regular season (TRUE/FALSE)
INPLAYOFF: Player is in the playoffs (TRUE/FALSE)
ROOKIEPKG: Generated rookie rating - development potential
0: Excellent
1: Good
2: Average
3: Limited
4: Very Limited
ROOKVALUE: Used for generated rookies
ROOKIERANK: Projected draft position - used for generated rookies
CASHYR_EXP: ?
CASH_YEAR: Player's salary for the current year, represented in millions of dollars without the final three digits.
ie.
14625 = $14.625 million
1210 = $1.21 million
CASH_TOTAL: Cash required to sign player, represented in millions of dollars without the final three digits.
ie.
14625 = $14.625 million
1210 = $1.21 million
CASH_RAISE: Player's annual raise - used for contracts that are not divided evenly over the number of years. Represented in millions of dollars without the final three digits.
ie.
14625 = $14.625 million
1210 = $1.21 million
121 = $121000
YEARS_LONG: The length of the player's contract
YEARS_LEFT: Number of years left on the player's contract
CASH_TEAM: Team whose cap player's salary counts against - Refer to Chart
PREF_LEN: Number of years player would like to sign for
MIN_TARGET: Salary player would prefer to receive
LOWBALLED: Unsure of values, but seems to be related to giving players lower offers than they are demanding
ISMINIMUM: Player can be signed to a Minimum contract (True/False)
WEEKLYMVP: Related to Player of the Week (not used)
MONTHLYMVP: Related to Player of the Month
SUPERSTAR: Superstar Abilities. In NBA Live 08 these are triggered automatically when players are in the right spot on the floor.
OFFVALUE: Offensive Value
DEFVALUE: Defensive Value
SFGATT: How many field goals a player attempted last season
SFGMAD: How many field goals a player made last season
STHREEATT: How many three pointers a player attempted last season
STHREEMAD: How many three pointers a player made last season
SFTATT: How many free throws a player attempted last season
SFTMAD: How many free throws a player made last season
SBLOCKS: How many blocks a player had last season

LEARNING: Learning Attribute; used with Destiny to determine the likelihood a player will improve with training. Ranges from 0-99 (0 being the worst and 99 being the best).
WORKETHIC: Work Ethic Attribute; determines the likelihood a player will stay in shape as well as improve with training. Ranges from 0-3, (0 being the best and 3 being the worst).
BIRDRIGHTS: Player qualifies for "Bird Rights" under the salary cap rules
CASHRESIGN: How much money a player can re-sign for
SPEECHID: Link to player's audio files for commentary and PA announcer. Same value as PLAYERID.

ISEDITED: Player has been edited through Edit Player
ISORIGSS: Player has Superstar abilities by default (True/False)
VALIDSSTAR: Superstar abilities player can utilise. In NBA Live 08 these are triggered automatically when players are in the right spot on the floor.
DFLTTEAM: Player's default team - Refer to Chart
CLUTCH: Clutch Rating (0-99)
SSTAR_HF: How close a player is to qualifying for High Flyer Superstar abilities - calculated by the game.
SSTAR_PM: How close a player is to qualifying for Playmaker Superstar abilities - calculated by the game.
SSTAR_PW: How close a player is to qualifying for Power Superstar abilities - calculated by the game.
SSTAR_SCO: How close a player is to qualifying for Outside Scorer Superstar abilities - calculated by the game.
SSTAR_SCI: How close a player is to qualifying for Inside Scorer Superstar abilities - calculated by the game.
SSTAR_SH: How close a player is to qualifying for Shooter Superstar abilities - calculated by the game.
